Chelsea are ready to pay £42 million for Milan Skriniar
It seems Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain may go head-to-head for the signature of Milan Skriniar. This is according to Italian outlet Calcio Mercato (h/t Mirror), who claim that both the clubs are willing to pay £42 million for the centre-back.
Chelsea are looking to bring in another centre-back at the club after having signed Kalidou Koulibaly earlier this month. The Blues have been linked with quite a few defenders this summer, but have failed to secure any signatures apart from Koulibaly.
Jules Kounde was close to joining the club but a late swoop from Barcelona has put the deal in jeopardy. Presnel Kimpembe was another target but he has now decided to stay put at PSG. Chelsea also battled it out with Bayern Munich for Matthijs de Ligt but failed in their pursuit.
Skriniar could become a very important signing for Thomas Tuchel. Having missed out on so many defenders, he could become a potential statement signing for the west London club. But above all, he would make a fine addition to Tuchel’s squad.
The 27-year-old Slovakian joined Inter Milan from Sampdoria in 2017 and has established himself as one the best defenders in Italy. A regular starter he has gone on to make 215 appearances for the Nerazzurri, winning three trophies with the club.
He would make an excellent partner to Thiago Silva and Koulibaly in a back three for Chelsea. But he will neither come cheap nor sans competition. PSG will be a tough competitor to beat and Tuchel and co will have to play their cards right if they want to come out on top.
Apart from him, the Blues also hold interest in Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana. The 21-year-old would be another fantastic signing for the Blues, but it remains to be seen which of the two players is given preference by Tuchel. Signing both Skriniar and Fofana would be something that Chelsea fans dream of at night.
