Chelsea reject the opportunity to sign 26-year-old PSG defender

Transfer News: Chelsea have rejected the chance to sign Thilo Kehrer from PSG

Chelsea is said to have been offered the chance to sign Paris Saint-Germain defender Thilo Kehrer. But the Blues have declined any such offer, according to journalist Christian Falk on Twitter.

The Blues are in dire need of fixing their back line this summer. Having already signed Kalidou Koulibaly, Thomas Tuchel is in the market for another centre-back. But it seems Kehrer is not an option this summer.

Kehrer joined PSG from the German side FC Schalke 04 in 2018 but has failed to establish himself in the French capital. He has been generally used as a backup to Marquinhos and Presnel Kimpembe. With the Parisian club adding Sergio Ramos to their squad, Kehrer has fallen down the pecking order.

Tuchel has been struggling to sign a centre-back this summer. A deal for Jules Kounde was said to be agreed but a late swoop from Barcelona has put the deal in jeopardy. Milan Skriniar and Presnel Kimpembe are said to be of interest to Chelsea, but signing them is proving to be difficult.

A centre-back is needed at Chelsea and Tuchel is aware of it. Thiago Silva and Koulibaly are the only senior defenders at the back and signing Kehrer would have helped Tuchel add depth to his squad and help increase the competition. At 26 years, he has room for improvement and increasing his potential.

But it seems Tuchel holds no interest in his countryman. With PSG offering the player, it would likely mean that Kehrer will likely have a very limited role at the Parisian club next season if he stays.

It will be interesting to see which new defender Tuchel brings this summer, if possible. Losing out on potential targets has narrowed down the list for Chelsea. It would be wise for Tuchel to get in a defender as soon as possible.

What happens with Kehrer next season remains to be seen. As for the fans, they will hope that they can get a defender and not regret having passed on one.
