“Makes sense”- PSV star opens up on rejecting Chelsea switch

Noni Madueke has given his thoughts on rejecting Chelsea, Manchester United and other European clubs

Speaking to BBC Sport (h/t Manchester Evening News), Noni Madueke has provided the reasons for rejecting Chelsea, Manchester United and other European clubs. Noni plays as a winger for the Eredivisie club PSV Eindhoven and has made 52 appearances for the first team.

Madueke was linked with a move to Chelsea in 2018 but decided to join PSV instead. He left Tottenham Hotspur’s academy at the age of 16 to the Netherlands seeking to improve his career. He has gone on to score 15 goals and provide 9 assists for the first team.

The 19-year-old has said that he decided to join the Eredivisie club as they offered more chances to get to the first team. He also admitted to receiving offers from a host of clubs including Chelsea and Manchester United.

“Chelsea, Manchester United, a lot of European clubs [made offers]. I came here one time and as soon as I came I wanted to sign straight away. I knew going from Tottenham to United is pretty much the same thing.”

The England international has also said that he does not regret rejecting offers from these big clubs as it always made sense to move to Philips Stadion. The winger has a goal tally of six goals and an assist in 16 appearances across all competitions this season.

“The reason I wanted to go was to progress quicker into the first team. PSV is a top European club. It made so much sense at the time and it makes sense now.”

Capable of playing both as a winger and upfront, Madueke is showing excellent signs of developing into a top player. As one of the top clubs in Europe, it is no surprise that the Blues are linked with the mercurial talent.
