Player News: Tuchel provides injury update on three Chelsea stars following EFL Cup win vs Saints

Thomas Tuchel gives injury update on three key players after the penalty shootout win vs Southampton in the Carabao Cup

According to Evening Standard, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has provided an injury update on Cesar Azpilicueta, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Andreas Christensen following the penalty shootout win against Southampton in the Carabao Cup.

Tuchel was speaking in the post-match press conference as they gear up to face Newcastle United in the Premier League. While he confirmed that they won’t be out for a long period, it is still slightly worrying as they would have a packed run of fixtures.

The English club are set to face Malmo in the reverse fixture after the Newcastle game and will face Burnley in the league on 6 November. They will need the entire squad as they have three games within eight days.

“We hope Azpi is back. He had a shoulder injury yesterday after a little accident in training. He fell on his shoulder and it is very painful but it is Azpi and he is a tough guy.”

Chelsea were already without Romelu Lukaku, Timo Werner and Christian Pulisic for the game against the Saints. An injury-riddled season is the last thing they need as they challenge for the major titles this season.

“Andreas needed surgery on his tooth and he should be back, if no complications, Thursday in training. Ruben felt after training in the hip joint some pain and hopefully we can handle it until Saturday.“

The Champions League winners can breathe a sigh of relief as none of the new injuries seems worse. However, they would be hoping that such small injuries would not become a regular pattern throughout the season.
