Chelsea youngster Karlo Ziger completes loan move to Rudar Velenje
According to The Sun, Chelsea starlet Karlo Ziger has completed a loan move to Rudar Velenje. The keeper is the 13th player the Blues have sent out on loan this season. He will now spend this season at Slovenian second division side NK Rudar Velenje.
A youth product of NK Zagreb, the Croatian keeper spent his developmental years there until 2017. He then joined Chelsea’s ranks and was drafted to the U-18’s. During that time, he made 17 appearances for the side, letting in 17 goals and keeping seven clean sheets. In 2019, he was allowed to leave on loan to non-league side Sutton.
On his return, he was promoted to the U-23’s setup. It took some time but he was finally noticed when Frank Lampard called him for bench duties last season. He was seen sitting beside Willy Caballero. Although he would play no part, he was surely making strides. In total, he has 22 appearances for the U-23’s and five clean sheets.
It would now seem that the 20-year-old keeper is off to Slovenia to play for NK Rudar Velenje on loan (h/t The Sun). He will spend the season there and return next year. Ziger is the third keeper after Nathan Baxter and Jamie Cumming to head out on loan. Overall, he was the 13th player the Blues have sent away on loan for the season.

With names such as Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga already fighting for the number one spot, adding to that Marcus Bettinelli as the third choice, it’s not hard to see that the department is well stocked. Ziger is a talented keeper but a season or two of regular games should aid his development and then he can be considered for the first team.
