Chelsea are not eager on selling 25-year-old star this summer

Timo Werner is going to remain at Chelsea beyond the summer

According to the Daily Star (h/t Express), Chelsea are not considering letting Timo Werner leave the club this summer amidst transfer rumours.

Werner was signed by the Stamford Bridge outfit last season from RB Leipzig and was part of the £200million+ the Blues forked out for several stars. The German was touted to lead the line for Chelsea, and although he did look the part in the beginning, things fell apart soon for Werner.

At one point, the German had not scored a Premier League goal for 1000 minutes, however, it did get better when Thomas Tuchel took the reins at Chelsea.

Werner started to feature in more games, and while his performances did slightly improve, he was still missing chances. The German did, however, manage to get on the scoresheet in the 2nd leg of the Champions League semi-final against 13-time champions in Real Madrid.

The 25-year-old was also a crucial part of the club’s UEFA Champions League final against Manchester City as the Blues won their 2nd ever Champions League title. Werner, however, did end up as the club’s top goal-scorer and was also their chief creator as he scored 12 goals and provided 12 assists in all competitions last season.

Moreover, the striker also featured for the club during their UEFA Super Cup victory against Villarreal last week, and also had a role to play in the club’s victory against Crystal Palace in the Premier League season opener.

Although the Blues have wrapped up the signing of Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan for £97.5million and have completed their objective of signing an out-and-out centre-forward, it does mean that it is the end of the road for Werner at Chelsea.

Werner had been linked with an exit earlier this summer. During Wednesday’s open training session at Cobham, the German international was even heckled by a fan, who said on the microphone, “Listen, I’ve got a word. Let’s have it. Get Werner out of the club.”

Despite his diminishing returns in front of the goal and a section of fans still not being convinced, Chelsea see Werner as a part of the plans under Tuchel. Even though they have enough attacking talent in the form of Hakim Ziyech, Mason Mount, Kai Havertz, Christian Pulisic, and Callum Hudson-Odoi, they want to keep the German at the club as they look to compete on all fronts again this season.
