Transfer News: Chelsea ace Davide Zappacosta closer to signing for Fiorentina than Atalanta

According to transfer news from journalist Alfredo Pedulla (h/t The Sun), Chelsea defender Davide Zappacosta is closer to joining Fiorentina than Atalanta. The Blues’ outcast could be heading back to the Serie A but both sides are mulling over certain factors before sending in an offer.

Davide Zappacosta felt like one of those signings at Chelsea that was never fully expected to become a starter but at least provide competition for the others. His exploits at Roma made Chelsea take the plunge on him. However, he could neither make a place for himself under Antonio Conte nor Maurizio Sarri.

It was after then that the loan spells began. He went back to Roma but an injury hampered his season here. However, he did enjoy the last season at Genoa accruing 25 appearances and six goals as well. Currently, Zappacosta is with the Blues, after taking part in the preseason. He could be on the move again though.

It was understood that Fiorentina and Atalanta were after him. However, it would seem as if Fiorentina have the edge currently as Atalanta are still waiting over the injury status of Han Hateboer. Even though Fiorentina are ahead in the queue, they will only go after Zappacosta if Pol Lirola is sold to Marseille.

Zappacosta’s future clearly lies away from Chelsea. There are far too many options for Tuchel to use such as Reece James, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Cesar Azpilicueta. Letting go of Zappacosta might not be an entirely bad idea as it would lighten the squad and probably bring in some much-needed cash.
