Transfer News: Chelsea set to battle Manchester United for Lucas Vazquez
According to transfer news from The Sun, Chelsea are set to battle Manchester United for the signature of Lucas Vazquez. The Real Madrid man could be set to end his stay at the club as his contract winds down.
The 29-year-old has spent all of his career at Real Madrid, barring a single season on loan at Espanyol. A three-time Champions League winner, he was a part of the Los Blancos side that dominated the competition in the recent past.
With his deal running out in the summer, Vazquez is free to leave the Bernabeu on a Bosman. Real for their part are keen to keep the player and have offered him a three-year deal.
Vazquez, however, does not believe that the value offered represents his contribution to the team. He has so far refused to entertain hopes of signing an extension.
A winger, manager Zinedine Zidane has largely used the player as a wing-back this season. With Tuchel employing a back-three, Lucas Vazquez can be a handy addition to the side.
While Marcos Alonso has looked good at left wing-back, the same cannot be said about the right flank. Reece James is a full-back while Callum Hudson-Odoi has been shoehorned into that role.

Signing a natural fit like Vazquez would serve the club well. Chelsea would be wise to go after the Spaniard given he is available on a free transfer. However, they would need to act fast given that United are also interested.
