Frank Lampard confirms Ruben Loftus-Cheek could still leave on loan
As reported by Football.london, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has confirmed that midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek can still leave on loan, in spite of Ross Barkley’s temporary exit.
Barkley departed Chelsea, joining Aston Villa on loan for the rest of the 2020/21 campaign in search of regular football. And even though Chelsea will be a midfielder short as a result, Lampard insists that Loftus-Cheek could still leave on a temporary spell as well. (h/t Football.london)
“I spoke with Ruben last week and there is an angle of this where he needs to play regular football. Ruben can really contribute here, but if it feels like him going as well, then that’s something I’ll consider over the next few days.”
A product of the Blues’ youth academy, Loftus-Cheek has shown plenty of promise in his fledgeling career so far. The midfielder has racked up 82 senior appearances for the club till date, scoring 12 goals in the process.
However, injuries meant he hardly featured last season. And following the recruitment of Kai Havertz this summer, the England international’s chances are likely to take a further hit this campaign.
Indeed, the 24-year-old has not been part of the matchday squad for the last four games in all competitions, after having started the season opener against Brighton.
And even though Barkley has left, with Jorginho, N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Mason Mount and Havertz still ahead of him in the pecking order, things are unlikely to improve for Loftus-Cheek.

So, a loan switch for a season would be the best option in front of him. More so, considering that sitting on the bench at Chelsea would affect his chances of making it to the England squad for the European Championships next summer.
