Fabrizo Romano: European giants unhappy with €85m Chelsea bid for South American ace

Fabrizio Romano reveals the bid Chelsea made for Enzo Fernandez revealed

According to popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea’s official proposal to Benfica for talented Argentinian midfielder Enzo Fernandez has been revealed and it is much lesser than what was first expected.

It was being claimed that the Blues made an offer of €120m to €127m for the talented midfield ace. However, Chelsea have offered much less to Benfica and the two clubs are unable to reach an agreement.

Romano has now claimed that Chelsea offered €85m to Benfica for Enzo but the Portuguese club are not happy with the offer. The two clubs have been in constant dialogue but are unable to reach an agreement.

The Italian journalist has also claimed that the Blues never had any intention of triggering the release clause of Enzo. It remains to be seen if they find a way to sign Fernandez.

The 21-year-old midfielder is on top of the world right now. His performances in the World Cup have been exceptional, to say the least. He was a key player in his country’s World Cup win.

Enzo was rightfully acknowledged as the ‘FIFA Young player of the Tournament’. He is already so composed at such a young age and always seems to make the right decision on the ball.

Benfica signed Enzo only in the summer and it comes as absolutely no surprise that they are going to make life difficult for any buying club. They have the upper hand in the situation and will not back down.

It remains to be seen if Chelsea are able to return with an improved offer and try and convince Benfica. They could agree to a deal somewhere close to the release clause but it will not be easy. Landing him will certainly future proof our midfield.

Right now, it does look like there are chances that this deal could collapse. The Blues will be hoping that is not the case and that they can manage to sign the World Cup winner.
