Chelsea ready to pounce if Arsenal fall short of landing Shakhtar ace

Chelsea are interested in Mykhailo Mudryk if the Arsenal deal collapses

According to the update from Transfer Guru Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are interested in signing Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhailo Mudryk only if the Arsenal deal collapses.

It is also revealed that the Gunners have improved their offer to sign the Ukraine international. Talks are on about the new price after the €40m plus €20m add-ons offer was rejected.

While it is a priority for Arsenal to complete this signature, Chelsea are waiting in the wings to jump on the opportunity if the deal collapses.

Mudryk has been one of the best young wingers in the European circuit in the last year or so. He has scored 10 goals and assisted eight in 18 appearances in all competitions while undergoing so much difficulty with the war-like situation in his home country.

The 21-year-old has everything in his game that is going to make him one of the best wingers of this generation. He can score, create, dribble past defenders, beat them with pace and has a good attitude towards the game.

Are Chelsea doing enough just by waiting for Arsenal to collapse in their attempts to Mudryk? No is the simple answer. The Blues could do with a wide player who can be a direct goal threat along with the trickery on the ball. The Ukraine international does offer that profile.

So, what we should do is press on with the idea and explore the possibility of signing the winger. Can they match or beat what Arsenal are offering to him financially? It is plausible. Once that is done, there is every chance that the player moves to west London rather than north.

Even though The Athletic reported that Chelsea are looking at signing a striker and a defender in January, adding a goal-scoring winger would add a different dimension to the team.
