Chelsea star Trevoh Chalobah tells Graham Potter his preferred position on the field

Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah has told Graham Potter his preferred position on the field is playing as a centre-back. He revealed this while speaking to the club media as quoted on the club’s website.

“I’ve played in midfield across my three loans [at Ipswich, Huddersfield and Lorient] and in a lot of positions really but I feel like my main position is centre-back. That’s the position I started in during my Academy days as well.”

The Evening Standard had carried out a report last month in which the 23-year-old was deployed in the midfield, during a closed-door friendly against Brighton & Hove Albion.

A Cobham graduate, the 23-year-old enjoyed his breakthrough season with the Blues last season. The centre-back surprisingly made 31 appearances for the west London club in all competitions last season.

While he got off to a slow start this season, he is likely to play more games going forward. The centre-back replaced Wesley Fofana after he got injured in their 3-0 win at home against AC Milan in the Champions League earlier this month.

The centre-back has been impressive for Graham Potter’s side in the last couple of games and is likely to be a regular, at least till Fofana returns from his injury.

Chalobah also seems to be a lucky charm for the Blues. The 23-year-old has only lost one game as a senior player, that coming against Juventus in their 1-0 defeat in the group stage of last season’s Champions League. Also, the Blues have never lost a game whenever the centre-back has been a starter.

He seems to do very well in the defence position and it will be wise for Potter to continue to deploy him there. The centre-back is in contention to start the game against Aston Villa this Sunday and fans will hope that he continues being a lucky charm for their club.
