Former PL striker backs Chelsea to challenge for the league title on one condition

Darren Bent backs Chelsea to challenge for the Premier League title if they complete three major signings

Speaking in Talksport Radio (h/t Express), former Premier League striker Darren Bent has backed Chelsea to challenge for the Premier League League title if they complete the signings of their top three targets before the end of this transfer window.

The Blues have already signed Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly and Marc Cucurella to strengthen their squad. They are now linked with a trio of Wesley Fofana, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Frenkie de Jong. Bent is sure that the trio will strengthen Chelsea immeasurably.

He also squashed any doubts over Aubameyang, and backs the former Arsenal star nal can score goals, something Chelsea are in need of big time. This is especially true given the exits of Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner.

Despite missing out on some of their top targets to Barcelona, Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has been really active in the transfer market to sign more players. He appears ready to splash the cash to strengthen his side.

With Romelu Lukaku out on loan and Timo Werner back at RB Leipzig, it is a necessity for the Blues to sign a striker. They started their Premier League campaign with a win over Everton where Sterling played as a false nine. That cannot be the plan moving forward, otherwise, goals will be hard to come by.

So, making sure the former Arsenal marksman Aubameyang signs should be a top priority for Boehly and manager Thomas Tuchel. Fofana will add some much-needed depth to the defensive roster while Frenkie de Jong will be a calm influence in the midfield.

Thomas Tuchel will be a happy man if Chelsea signs their targets before deadline day.

Aubameyang scored 11 goals in 17 La Liga appearances in the second half of last season, showing that leaving Arsenal was not due to his lack of potency in front of goal. Moreover, getting Fofana and de Jong would help in solidifying the depth of two key areas of the pitch – midfield and defence. The latter adds substance and quality to the midfield.

Talking about central defence, Thiago Silva is 37 and will not go on forever. Cesar Azpilicueta and Koulibaly are on the other side of 30 as well. So, signing Fofana, who is 21 and has an abundance of quality would make them complete in the defensive department.

More Chelsea News:

Should Borhly get his three targets, Chelsea must be challenging for the title. However, it may take time for the new players to gel together and display chemistry. Haste makes waste after all.
