Speaking in his first interview as a Chelsea player on the club’s website (h/t football.london), Carney Chukwuemeka has opened up about his ambitions at the club.
Carney was announced as a Chelsea player earlier today. He has signed a six-year contract with the Blues. Chelsea are said to have paid Aston Villa £20million for the services of the 18-year-old.
“To hear myself say I play for Chelsea Football Club means the world to me. I’ve been a fan of Chelsea since I was young. I feel like I just want to bring myself, try and be unique and be a player for Chelsea that has never been seen before at this football club.”
He joins the list of other youngsters that have joined the west London outfit this summer. The England Under-19 international joins the likes of Zak Sturge, Tyler Dibling and Gabriel Slonina, as Chelsea look to build a team for the present and future.
The midfielder is one of the brightest talents in the country. He played a pivotal role as he helped his country win the European Under-19 Championship last month. The 18-year-old showed his talent as he featured in every game for the young Lions, scoring 3 and assisting 2 in the process.
His phenomenal performance in the middle of the park earned him a spot in UEFA’s Team of the Tournament. Last season was his breakthrough campaign and he is just getting started. He registered 14 appearances for Steven Gerrard’s side last season and put on a display for the audience.
Carney’s ball-carrying ability and the knack of always finding the spare man caught the eye of everyone watching. Just 18 years old, the player has a very bright future ahead of him. And under the guidance of a coach like Thomas Tuchel, it will not be very long before he explodes onto the scene.
The player is very excited to make his debut for the club. It remains to be seen if Tuchel includes him in his first-team squad. The midfield department is overfilled with players and what role Carney will have next season could be interesting.
“I’ve already imagined walking out at Stamford Bridge, I can’t till for the day it happens, people should expect me to be 100% in all I do, give my all for the club because that’s what I’m going to do.”
With the new season getting underway this weekend, fans will be excited to see the young prospect perform. However, with senior and experienced players ahead of him, he is likely to get less playing time. Nevertheless, every time he takes the pitch, he will give a performance everyone remembers.
