Transfer News: Chelsea are interested in signing Inter Milan Nicolo Barella this summer
Chelsea are interested in Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella this summer. This is according to Calciomercato (h/t football.london), who also claim that Liverpool have been linked with the player.
The Blues are said to have stepped up their interest in the player. The 25-year-old joined Inter in 2020 from Cagliari Calcio. The Italy international went on to win the Scudetto in his first season with the Nerazzurri.
He has established himself as a regular starter for club and country. The midfielder was pretty impressive during Italy’s run to the UEFA Euros 2020 title.
A box-to-box midfielder, the 25-year-old had a very impressive last season. He helped his club win the Italy Cup and they narrowly missed out on the Scudetto, finishing second behind arch-rivals AC Milan. The midfielder notched up 13 assists in 35 league appearances for the Serie A side last season.
With N’Golo Kante and Jorginho entering the final year of their contracts, Thomas Tuchel seems to be looking for replacements for the duo. Conor Gallagher, who enjoyed a very good loan spell at Crystal Palace last season, is expected to play a big role next season.
Barella would make a fine addition to the Chelsea squad. A top player with huge playing experience, he has the capability of making the Blue’s midfield more fluid. A regular player for their team, Inter could be hesitant to sell him especially given their ambitions to challenge for the Serie A title.
He is not the only player of interest to Chelsea. The Blues are also said to be interested in Cesare Casadei from Inter Milan Under-19 team. He is another phenomenal midfielder who has quite the admirers in London. If Tuchel can land both the players, he will have the midfield department sorted for some years.

Barella’s stamina, passing skills, and defensive workrate are all impressive. There is a reason why he has been so successful at Inter and hopefully, Todd Boehly and co can see that as well.
