Brendan Rodgers reveals that Chelsea are yet to match Leicester’s valuation for Wesley Fofana
Speaking to BBC’s Owynn Palmer-Atkin (h/t Fabrizio Romano on Twitter), Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed that Chelsea are yet to match the club’s valuation to sign defender Wesley Fofana this summer.
Rodgers further went on to add that there have been no new proposals from the Blues this week. The two offers made so far have fallen short of expectations, giving us no clear advantage. Rodgers has only recently admitted that the young Frenchman is not for sale.
The two Chelsea offers rejected by the Foxes were around £60m and £70m. The latest from the Blues camp does suggest that they could eventually fork out what is needed to land their man.
Romano earlier reported that the player is willing to make a move to London as he has aspirations to play in the Champions League and eventually force his way into the France World Cup squad. Whether the Blues can take advantage of this remains to be seen.
After a very good debut season at Leicester, Fofana picked up a nasty leg injury during the 2021 pre-season, keeping him out of action until the New Year. The 21-year-old has shown the versatility to play in either a back four or a back five and is the epitome of a modern-day defender.
With Chelsea losing Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen this summer, they naturally need centre-backs to bolster that department. Although Kalidou Koulibaly was signed and Cesar Azpilicueta extended his contract, the depth is still lacking in that area.
Fofana is an ideal modern-day centre-back, who is comfortable on the ball, reads danger very well, has a good recovery pace and is physically strong on challenges despite not being built like a giant. He is only 21 and has considerable first-team experience, which will only see him fit in well at Stamford Bridge.

Fofana isn’t just a player for the present but also for the future. The Frenchman has what it takes to be a modern-day great and it remains to be seen if he will do so in the Blue of Chelsea.
