Transfer News: PSG ready to ditch their interest in 27-year-old Chelsea target

Transfer News: PSG could walk away from Milan Skriniar deal amid Chelsea interest

In what may come as a good news to Thomas Tuchel and Chelsea fans, Paris Saint-Germain are said to be prepared to walk away from signing Milan Skriniar. This is according to L’Equipe journalist Loic Tanzi via Evening Standard (h/t football.london).

This would come as a major boost for the Blues who are also said to be interested in the Slovakian centre-back. Tuchel has been in the market to sign another defender and had identified the 27-year-old as a potential target.

PSG are considering walking out due to financial reasons and would approach other targets. Skriniar moved to Inter Milan in 2017 from Sampdoria and has established himself as one of the best defenders in Italian football.

Having just signed Kalidou Koulibaly at the back this summer, Tuchel is in dire need to fix his backline. The centre-back was very impressive during their friendly game against Udinese, but he alone is not enough.

Time to hurry up

Another centre-back is needed, especially with Cesar Azpilicueta continuously being linked with a move to Barcelona. Chelsea were in the fray for Matthijs de Ligt and Jules Kounde earlier this summer, but the former has joined Bayern Munich and the latter, Barcelona.

To add more tension to it, the new season starts on August 6. But with PSG threatening to walk away from a defender like Skriniar, the Blues have the perfect opportunity to swoop in on the player.

Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen’s absence could be felt if we don’t add at least another defender to our ranks. Thiago Silva is in the final years of his playing career while Trevoh Chalobah is still relatively inexperienced.

After an infamous saga that saw us miss out on Kounde, it is important for the Blues to retain focus on not losing sight of the ultimate goal. Strengthening the defence is a very important aspect for us this summer – at least that is what our fans would tell you – and a player like Skriniar would be a useful signing at Stamford Bridge.

Whether or not Chelsea make a move for the centre-back remains to be seen. The fans would love to have such a top-class defender at their club. Be it Skriniar or someone else, Todd Boehly and co must ensure that Tuchel goes into the new season with a strong backline to build his team upon.
