Chelsea starlet set for talks with Boehly as Stamford Bridge future remains uncertain

Transfer News: Chelsea striker Armando Broja is set to talk with owner Todd Boehly amid interest from various clubs

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly will meet with striker Armando Broja this week amid interest from Everton, West Ham United and Newcastle United according to the Evening Standard. The US tycoon is set to have talks with Thomas Tuchel to determine the striker’s future at the club.

Broja spent the last season on loan at Southampton. The Albanian enjoyed a good spell scoring nine goals in all competitions for the Saints. Having broken into the scene last season, he has now gained the interest of a few rival clubs.

Everton and West Ham have discussed terms regarding the striker and a bid of around £30 million is said to be on the table. Newcastle have seen a loan offer turned down, with the Albanian looking for a role at Chelsea or a permanent transfer to another Premier League club ahead of next season.

Broja emerged as one of the best young strikers in the Premier League last season and now it remains to be seen what Chelsea do with such a talented player. He certainly appears to be a talented player but Stamford Bridge has acted as a graveyard for strikers in recent years.

One for the future?

Tuchel wants to train with the player first and see his performance during the pre-season to assess whether to make him part of the squad next season or sell him. The Blues failed to find the back of the net at times last season and Tuchel will be aware of that. A striker is needed, but not necessarily from outside.

Romelu Lukaku has returned to Inter Milan on loan for next season. Timo Werner, the other senior striker, lacked impact in front of the goal last season and is tipped to leave the club. This leaves Michy Batshuayi as the only other out-and-out striker in the team who is not preferred by Tuchel.

The German tactician had used other attackers in the number nine position, but all lacked the goal threat. Broja, though only 20 years old, showed his quality and potentially last season. Plus, he did it in the Premier League itself. Tuchel could potentially use him next season as a backup if not a regular starter.

Broja is young and still has to learn a lot. He showed his capability last season, and guidance from an experienced coach like Tuchel could help Broja show his true potential. It would be unwise to sell him for a quick profit. Rather, if he does not like the role being offered at Chelsea, they could convince him to go out on loan again next season.
