Transfer News: Chelsea one of the clubs to enquire about wantaway Portuguese legend

Chelsea make enquiry about Cristiano Ronaldo transfer situation at Manchester United

According to @MatteMoretto (h/t Football.London), even though several elite teams including Chelsea have enquired about the situation regarding Cristiano Ronaldo, Old Trafford management is adamant that the Portuguese star will not leave and is not up for sale.

The 37-year-old United legend has requested the Red Devils to approve any acceptable offers. The shocking news follows the first week of preseason workouts under new Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag.

Ronaldo, who has not yet made it back to Carrington, is upset about the idea of playing his first season in nearly two decades without Champions League action. And he doesn’t think United’s team is strong enough to challenge for the title.

Consequently, Chelsea have been put on high alert as they search for a striker to replace the void left by Romelu Lukaku’s transfer to Inter Milan.

It is now believed that along with the Blues, Bayern Munich and Napoli have registered an enquiry about the Portuguese superstar’s situation at Old Trafford. However, the United bosses have made it clear that they are not interested in selling the 37-year-old in this summer window.

Only one thing is certain. Regardless of Chelsea’s league standing in the following season, Ronaldo, should he sign for us, will get goals. That kind of goes without saying given his track record, but at what cost?

Can he adjust to Thomas Tuchel’s aggressive pressing style at the age of 37? Will he be content to step aside when players who are better suited to Tuchel’s style are given the go-ahead?

Really, it’s a difficult one to think about. Ronaldo won’t be a long-term solution up front at his age and it remains to be seen if the Blues would take on CR7 on their wage books despite still having Lukaku with them- after all, he hasn’t gone to Italy on a permanent basis.

There are many questions that need to be addressed, so Chelsea shouldn’t rush or become desperate to close this deal. Even though any team in the world would be intrigued to learn about the chances of signing Ronaldo, our board must think about the deal sensibly- especially if it makes sense in terms of tactics and finances.
