Former Chelsea star Charly Musonda goes missing after he received a contract offer from Belgium side Zulte Waregem
Former Chelsea player Charly Musonda has gone AWOL, after being offered a contract from Belgium side Zulte Waregem, according to the club’s chief executive, reports the Mirror. The 25-year-old had left Chelsea last month.
Musonda had received a contract from the Belgian top-flight side following a trial with them. But now it seems he has disappeared before putting pen to paper, with the club’s chief executive having no idea if the player will even return.
“When will Charly Musonda return to training? I don’t know,” Eddy Cordier said. “Will he ever come back? No idea”.
The former Blues attacking midfielder joined the club in 2012 from the youth academy of Anderlecht. He was promoted to the senior side in 2017, but never really got going. He failed to impress during his time at the club and spent most of his time on loan to different clubs over the years including Real Betis, Celtic and Vitesse Arnhem.
A bizarre turn of event
The former Belgium Under-21 international was one of the best prospects to have joined the academy. But for some reason, he never really got going. He had his loan spells but there too he failed to perform.
Last season he struggled to overcome a posterior cruciate ligament tear which resulted in him only playing two times for Chelsea’s Under-23 side. His departure was confirmed months ago by the London-based outfit leading to rumours of transfer interest from different European clubs.
The most interesting one was him being linked to Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma. The Portuguese coach had worked with Musonda during his second spell with the Blues. But none of that came into actual happening and he instead spent a few days going through a trial at Zulte Waregem.
Musonda was released from Chelsea after spending ten years at the club. In his time, he could only manage to make seven appearances for the club, scoring one goal and assisting two.

What will happen now is anyone’s guess. If the player does come back, he will be expected to give a very good reason for such behaviour or he could potentially even lose the contract offer. It could be interesting to see what happens. Hopefully he does not throw his career away.
