“Believed in me”- 22-year-old Chelsea starlet sends message to Antonio Rudiger amid contract standoff

Chelsea starlet Trevoh Chalobah credits Antonio Rudiger for his development

According to The Express, promising Chelsea defender, Trevoh Chalobah has outlined the role Antonio Rudiger has played in his development as a top-level footballer.

The youngster has been privy to first-team minutes this season and is slowly yet steadily making a name for himself without and outside the club. He recently featured in the club’s hard-fought 1-0 win over Brentford and gave a good account of himself.

Chalobah admits that it was Rudiger who helped him settle in London. A friendly figure, the German also put his faith in the young defender, something he is grateful for.

It is good to see that not only has Rudiger fulfilled his role as a mentor but Chalobah appears to have learned his lessons well. He has gone on to express his gratitude for the 28-year-old veteran.

“He always believed in me, told me to keep working hard. I’ve taken my opportunity well but I’d say thanks to him for believing in me.”

Chalobah also revealed that he took career guidance of sorts from Rudiger. He admits that the German ace provided advice ahead of his loan move elsewhere. The 22-year-old has had three different loan spells in the last three years and it has done him a world of good.

“I used to talk to him about what to do to improve my game. I told him I was going out on loan, told him what I needed to do.”

Rudiger is clearly a Chelsea hero both on and off the field. The German’s impact at the club cannot be underestimated and he will be missed should he decide to move on.

The 28-year-old is currently in the final year of his contract at Chelsea. He is no closer to agreeing on fresh terms and can talk to foreign clubs regarding a Bosman switch from January.

It is in Chelsea’s best interests should Rudiger decide to stay put. Not only will he provide Thomas Tuchel with an elite choice at the back but can also help guide the young defenders coming through.
