Transfer News: Chelsea will return for Jules Kounde in January
According to transfer news from The Guardian (h/t Express), Chelsea will revisit their interest in Jules Kounde in January. The Blues failed to get the deal over the line for Kounde as Sevilla ended up asking more than what they had agreed on. However, there is no panic as there are plans to have another crack at the Frenchman when the January transfer window opens.
Chelsea cannot complain about the transfer business they did over the last month. They needed a world-class striker and they got one after re-signing Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian has even gotten off the mark with a goal. Then a late deal for Saul ensured that the central midfield will have enough quality and options. However, Chelsea did actually miss out on a target of theirs.
Jules Kounde was being chased through most of the summer as Chelsea looked to revamp the defence a bit. It was not surprising that they went after Kounde given the talent and potential he has shown over the last two seasons at Sevilla. A deal could not be worked out though as Sevilla made a late swerve.
Initially, there was a verbal agreement that Chelsea would pay £52m. However, the Spanish side ended up asking for an additional £13m that would have met his release clause. The Blues were taken aback and the deal collapsed. Nonetheless, there remains the belief that they will return for Kounde in January when the window reopens.

Kounde is keen on a move to Chelsea as relayed by Sevilla chief Monchi. This looks like a matter of when, not if, the 22-year-old joins the club. Perhaps, Chelsea could go in with a better offer that matches Sevilla’s asking price. Whatever be the case, there is a good chance of the Frenchman joining the Blues.
