Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso back Romelu Lukaku to win the PL Golden boot
Speaking to the official Chelsea FC website, Spanish defender, Marcos Alonso has backed his teammate Romelu Lukaku to win the PL Golden boot this season. The Belgian striker returned home to Stamford Bridge this summer transfer window from Inter Milan in a £97.5million deal.
Since his arrival at Chelsea, the player has been in fine form. The Belgian, who was instrumental for Inter Milan last season in winning the Serie A title, has started off the season well, as he scored in the London Derby against Arsenal and struck two goals at home against Aston Villa in a 3-0 victory for the Blues.
After the victory against Villa, his teammate, Marcos Alonso has made the case that Lukaku will be the favourite to win the PL Golden boot this season. Speaking to club’s official website, the Spanish defender said:
“He has shown his abilities, he is so strong and he scores goals. Of course, he is one of the best in his position and it’s great to have him with us. It will be a tough fight ( for the Golden Boot) but of course, he’s got a chance.
“You see all the good teams in the last few teams who have won the league, they’ve had someone in the top scorers list. That’s what we will have with Lukaku this season, I’m sure. Hopefully, he will help us achieve bigger things and score as many goals as he can.”
Romelu Lukaku had scored a total of 24 goals in 36 appearances for Inter Milan last season. And his Chelsea manager and teammates would be hoping he continues to perform at this level. However, with Cristiano Ronaldo back at Manchester United, and Mohamed Salah in fine form for Liverpool it could be an interesting battle for the Golden Boot this season.
