“Watched for years”: PL midfield ace reveals admiration for 26-year-old Chelsea summer signing

John McGinn has named Chelsea star Saul Niguez as a player who he admires

According to an interview done with Sky Sports (h/t Birmingham Live), Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn has named Chelsea ace Saul Niguez as one of the players he admires.

Saul signed for the Blues from Atletico Madrid on a loan deal plus an option to buy in the dying embers on deadline day and has since trained with the Blues. The Spaniard was handed a start in the game against Aston Villa on Saturday alongside Mateo Kovacic in the midfield line.

However, the 26-year-old had a day to forget as he gave the ball away a couple of times in dangerous positions, conceded fouls and was then substituted by Thomas Tuchel as Jorginho came on for the second half.

Villa midfielder John McGinn talked about the Spanish midfielder after the game and was full of praise for Niguez. McGinn told Sky Sports (h/t Birmingham Live):

“He’s a top player, he’s one I’ve watched for years in the Champions League and one I admire, but sometimes, I had it as well my first few games in the Premier League, it does take time to get used to the tempo.”

Niguez, who is a Champions League finalist and a La Liga winner, made the switch to Chelsea as he was promised he would be played in the midfield role, according to his conversation with Ibai Llanos on Twitch (h/t Daily Mail).

Moreover, with the Blues skim in midfield with the likes of Jorginho, N’Golo Kante, and Mateo Kovacic, Saul has added to the depth in the centre of the pitch for the club.

Although the 26-year-old had a forgetful debut, the west London outfit went on to win the game 3-0, thanks to a brace from Romelu Lukaku and a goal from Mateo Kovacic.
