Transfer News: Chelsea keen on Metz wonderkid Pape Matar Sarr
According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea face competition from a number of Premier League sides for 18-year-old Metz wonderkid Pape Matar Sarr.
The teenager is one of the many promising youngsters making a name for themselves in the French top flight. He burst onto the scene at Metz last season and was promoted to the first team after a solitary game for the reserves.
Sarr has since made 27 appearances for the Ligue 1 side, scoring four goals. His performances have not gone unnoticed with both Manchester United and Manchester City keeping tabs. Chelsea face a real fight on their hands if they are serious about signing the player.
Primarily a defensive midfielder, Sarr can do a good job in central midfield and also fulfil attacking responsibilities if needed.
The all-action starlet is a graduate of Senegal’s famous Generation Foot academy. The likes of Sadio Mane, Ismaila Sarr, Papiss Cisse among others came through the institution and have set a proper precedent for success in Europe. Sarr could be the latest to join that illustrious list.
All three English clubs are ready to make a move for the player and will loan him back to Metz for the remainder of the season. Having recently tied him down to a five-year contract, the French side holds the advantage when it comes to negotiations.
The Blues are building a promising young team under Thomas Tuchel and are seeking to build on their Champions League success from last season. While we have a number of promising young players in the ranks, the midfield is an area that will need tinkering in a couple of years time.
N’Golo Kante is not getting any younger while the likes of Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic are limited in terms of all-round attributes. Alongside Conor Gallagher and Billy Gilmour, Sarr could develop into a player the Blues will rely on for years to come.
There is plenty of upside in the player’s potential and Chelsea should do what they can to land him.

Despite his tender age, Sarr has already made his full debut for the Senegalese national team. He has won two caps for his country and looks set for a bright future. There is every chance that Chelsea could be getting themselves a potential world-beater should the deal go through.
