Chelsea interested in signing 18-year-old Bundesliga starlet, claims journalist

Chelsea are eyeing a move for Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund

According to Eurosport’s Dean Jones (h/t The Express), Chelsea are interested in signing English international Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund.

The Blues, who have already wrapped up the £98million signing of Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan, are keen on signing a central defender and central midfielder. While the Blues are targeting Sevilla’s Jules Kounde for the former, Jude Bellingham could be a name for the latter, according to Jones. The expert spoke on The Football Terrace Podcast (h/t The Express) about Chelsea’s interest in Bellingham.

He said (h/t The Express):

“I’ve talked about Jude Bellingham in the past, and that one becomes interesting. And we’ll see what happens at Dortmund this season under Marco Rose.

“I know he’s excited about the project there, and he’s definitely getting better as a player. But Chelsea do also have an eye on Jude Bellingham”.

However, Jones also pointed out that a move for Bellingham will only be eyed if the Blues fail in their effort to sign ex-academy star Declan Rice.

“If, for whatever reason, Declan Rice doesn’t work out.”

Chelsea, who currently only have 3 midfielders in their squad, are keen on bolstering that area as the likes of Mateo Kovacic, Jorginho, and N’Golo Kante could use backup. Moreover, with both Jorginho and Kante turning 30 this year, there could be a need to put a fresh young face in the centre of the pitch for the West-London outfit.

Bellingham joined Dortmund from Birmingham at the start of last season and went on to feature 48 times for the German outfit in all competitions last season, scoring 4 goals and providing 4 assists in the same period.

The Englishman would be a useful addition to any team, and if the Blues do manage to snap up the 18-year-old in the near future, it would be great business on their part and would only boost their chances of winning the biggest titles in the seasons to come.
