Chelsea reach agreement with Roma over Tammy Abraham
According to reputed journalist Gianluca Di Marzio (h/t Express), Chelsea have reached an agreement over a move for Tammy Abraham. Arsenal were also said to be in the running but it seems that Roma have gotten their man for £40m. Completion of the deal will depend on Abraham agreeing personal terms.
Quite how Tammy Abraham went from a first-team regular to not even making the bench towards the end of the season remains perplexing. A favourite of Frank Lampard, Abraham went on to bang 12 goals in the first half of the season. However, the arrival of Thomas Tuchel saw a tactical rejig where Kai Havertz was used as a false nine.
However, it felt that Tuchel had frozen out Abraham on occasions when he was fit but nowhere to be seen in the matchday squads. Chelsea even went into the FA Cup and Champions League finals without him on the side. This was all the more baffling as Chelsea struggled to get more than a goal in certain games. Now, Chelsea are looking at life with Romelu Lukaku as their primary striker. (h/t Express)
That means Tammy Abraham is third or even fourth choice at the club. Interest in Abraham was pretty high with the likes of Roma and Arsenal wanting him. However, Jose Mourinho’s Roma seem to have reached an agreement with Chelsea for a transfer worth £40m. The amount will be paid over a few years. Only the agreement of personal terms is said to be holding up the completion of this deal. (h/t Express)

With interest from clubs such as Arsenal and Aston Villa, Chelsea were definitely open to an overseas move for Abraham. After all, he is a talented striker and moving to either of those sides would strengthen the rivals. A deal looks close to happening and it will probably be for the best.
