Report: Chelsea put up six players for sale including forgotten midfield stars

Tiemoue Bakayoko and Ross Barkley among 6 names transfer-listed by Chelsea

According to Nizaar Kinsella of Goal via a tweet by Simon Phillips (h/t football.london), Chelsea have put six players up for sale during the summer transfer window, including the likes of Ross Barkley and Tiemoue Bakayoko.

The entire list includes – Bakayoko, Barkley, Davide Zappacosta, Matt Miazga, Kenedy, and Danny Drinkwater. None of these names here should surprise Chelsea fans.

The French midfielder Bakayoko was on loan at Napoli last season and has spent the majority of his time as a Chelsea player that way. Barkley was also at Aston Villa for the 2020/21 campaign.

The 27-year-old English playmaker made a good impression in a season cut short by a mid-season injury. Kenedy, the 25-year-old wide midfielder from Brazil, plied his trade with Granada before his return to Stamford Bridge this summer.

Chelsea plan clear-out

Zappacosta was at Serie A side, Genoa, while Miazga, the American centre-back, gained valuable playing time at Anderlecht. And lastly, Drinkwater, who signed from Leicester City in 2017, played the second half of last season at Kasimpasa in Turkey.

These are all players that played fairly regularly for the clubs they were at during the last campaign. Their loan spells away from West London made it clear that they weren’t in Chelsea’s plans, at least in the short term.

And hence, it is wise of the Blues to sell them off while they can hope to recoup any amount of transfer fee for them. Thomas Tuchel is seemingly in favour of getting rid of a number of players that aren’t in his plans.
