Transfer News: Chelsea joined by Manchester United in race to sign Aurelien Tchouameni
According to transfer news from football.london, Chelsea have been joined by Manchester United in the race to sign AS Monaco youngster Aurelien Tchouameni.
The Blues are in danger of losing out on one of the most talented stars in French football after Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri told a United fan Twitter account (h/t football.london) that the Red Devils are also interested in signing the 21-year-old.
This would come as a blow for the Blues, who have been keen on signing a central midfielder this summer. Chelsea’s shortage of midfield options were clear when Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic were the only available choices for the Blues during their game against Crystal Palace on Sunday.
N’Golo Kante, who is the only other option in the midfield line, was out injured’. And, with him turning 31 next year, the Blues need a more youthful approach in midfield, and who better than Tchouameni, who was voted as Ligue 1’s Young Player of the Season last year.
Chelsea, however, have their main focus on Sevilla defender Jules Kounde after the club agreed personal terms with the player earlier this summer, according to Mundo Deportivo, via Team Talk (h/t Daily Star).
Moreover, Chelsea are also concentrating on shifting some of their deadwood out after it was understood that the club had 42 players in training at one point.

Tchouameni, who racked up 42 appearances in all competitions for Monaco last season, scored 3 goals and provided 4 assists in the process, showing his importance for the club for the midfield line.
Thus, the Blues will have to act fast if they hope to sign the Frenchman ahead of rivals Manchester United this summer.
