According to transfer news from Inside Futbol (h/t Mirror), Chelsea target Niklas Sule is likely to stay back at Bayern Munich. The German defender has been linked with a move away to Chelsea. However, new Bayern boss Julian Nagelsmann wants to keep the 25-year-old.
Chelsea are said to be after a new centre-back as they look to refresh their defensive options for next season. The club had relied on the likes of Cesar Azpilicueta, Andreas Christensen, Antonio Rudiger, Thiago Silva and Kurt Zouma over the last season. But now a new defender seems to be on the agenda.
That had led them into looking at Jules Kounde as a potential option. However, a deal is proving to be complicated as Chelsea are embroiled in other deals and the inability to sell off Zouma means that an alternative in Niklas Sule was lined up. The Bayern man has been a target for the Blues through most of the summer.
Nonetheless, Chelsea have received a blow in this regard. Bayern Munich are keen to keep their star man. Despite only 12 months remaining on his current deal, new boss Julian Nagelsmann wants the player to stay regardless of any interest from Chelsea. It must also be noted that Bayern have not yet received any bids for Sule.
Chelsea’s interest in Sule doesn’t look that strong given Jules Kounde is said to be the primary target. That won’t matter much now as Bayern are not looking to offload Sule and Chelsea have not yet made a bid for the player.
