Chelsea will sign key transfer target regardless of 26-year-old star’s future, claims journo

Transfer News: Chelsea to sign Jules Kounde regardless of Kurt Zouma being sold or not

Speaking on the ‘The Straight Outta Cobham Podcast’, The Athletic journalist Simon Johnson (h/t football.london) revealed that Chelsea are expected to sign both Romelu Lukaku and Jules Kounde during the summer transfer window.

The Inter Milan striker has caught the attention of his former club this summer and could re-join Stamford Bridge. On top of that, the Blues have also been linked with Sevilla star, Jules Kounde, to strengthen at the back.

Chelsea’s defence under Thomas Tuchel was solid last season as the club reached two cup finals and finished in the top 4. It was, perhaps, the attack that left fans wanting.

And Johnson’s comments about Lukaku being the club’s priority right now, hence, make sense. But he has also revealed that Jules Koune’s arrival has very little to do with Kurt Zouma’s future.

Kounde to join Chelsea?

“I think Lukaku will be in the door first (out of him and Kounde). I expect Lukaku to happen. For Kounde, I’ve been assured Chelsea will sign him regardless of Zouma, but the priority has become Lukaku for now. I think Kounde will get done.”

His comments would come as a boost for Chelsea fans considering The Guardian mentioned earlier this week that Chelsea’s pursuit of Kounde had stalled because of Zouma’s refusal to join West Ham United.

If Chelsea end the window with Kounde and Lukaku, it would be a big plus for Thomas Tuchel ahead of the new season. The Blues have largely focused on player sales in the past few weeks.
