Transfer News: Alaves complete agreement with Chelsea over Matt Miazga loan
According to Fabrizio Romano, Deportivo Alaves have come to an ‘agreement’ with Chelsea over a loan deal for Matt Miazga. The USMNT defender will head out to the Spanish side on loan for the next season. There is also the option to sign him on a permanent deal at the end of it.
Quite why Chelsea signed Matt Miazga back in 2016 is hard to explain. Sure, he was a decent talent making a name for himself back in his homeland for New York RedBulls but the Premier League is a whole different ball game. Miazga found it out all too well over the next few seasons with just two senior games for Chelsea.
A slew of loan spells followed to Vitesse Arnhem, a popular destination for Chelsea to send players on loan. Then came three consecutive spells to Nantes, Reading and Anderlecht. It was only at his last loan in Belgium that he found some form playing under the stewardship of former Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany.
However, Miazga will not be remaining at Chelsea for the season though. A loan deal has been agreed between Chelsea and Deportivo Alaves which will see him travel to Spain for the next season. Paperworks have also been completed and it could soon be made official. It must be noted that Alaves have the option to buy him at the end of the loan next season.
Miazga never really made the cut at Chelsea and given how things are currently, he was unlikely to change that. The loan-to-buy deal is a good move on Chelsea’s part as it gets the defender off their books, possibly for good.
