Report: Chelsea are yet to make an official bid for 22-year-old La Liga defensive target

Chelsea are yet to formally approach Sevilla for Jules Kounde

According to Sport Witness (h/t football.london), Chelsea are yet to make a bid for French centre-back Jules Kounde despite showing interest all summer.

The Blues are keen on strengthening their defence and have targeted Sevilla’s Kounde in the summer. Moreover, it is also understood that the player is willing to move to Stamford Bridge and that personal terms have been agreed over a five-year contract.

While that may be the case, there have been several stumbling blocks along the road. Although the West London outfit agreed terms with the Frenchman, there was a problem in the structure of the deal. The Blues wanted to conduct a player-plus swap deal including Kurt Zouma, but the 26-year-old did not want to move to La Liga and preferred a move in England.

Later, the Stamford Bridge outfit prioritized the signing of a centre-forward, courtesy of which they brokered a club-record move to sign Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan in a deal worth £97.5million

Thus, since then, funds have been a slight issue for the Blues as Sevilla are demanding an offer in the range of €60-70million for Kounde, according to Sport Witness (h/t football.london).

Moreover, the emergence of Trevoh Chalobah into the squad has also tamed Chelsea’s quest to sign Kounde, but it now looks like the London club are trying to orchestrate a move for Kurt Zouma to fund a move for the Sevilla man.

The Spanish outfit are also ready to let go of the 22-year-old this summer as they have already readied a replacement in Boubacar Kamara, according to AS (h/t football.london).

Thus, although the Blues are interested in signing the French talent, they are yet to make a formal offer that would convince Sevilla to let go of the player and only time will tell whether Chelsea actually go ahead and submit a bid before the end of the month.
