Thomas Tuchel provides an update on Chelsea starlet Trevoh Chalobah after Super Cup win
According to Football.london, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has given some hint about the future of Trevoh Chalobah. While no decision has been reached for the season ahead, signs are promising that the youngster might be allowed to have a run in the side.
Tuchel just wrapped up his second piece of silverware for Chelsea with the UEFA Super Cup. The game went right down to the wire as both sides traded blows for the entirety of 120 mins and a shootout followed. Chelsea would emerge victorious in that with Kepa Arrizabalaga saving the all-important spot-kick from Raul Albiol.
However, on a night glittered with superstars on each side, it was a young Trevoh Chalobah who was making his competitive debut for Chelsea. He has been a regular part of the side during pre-season. His impressive performances led him to play the entire game ahead of more experienced options such as Reece James or Cesar Azpilicueta.
Tuchel hints at Chalobah stay
Questions were naturally asked about his future and whether he would go on to feature for Tuchel’s side through the season or end up on another loan spell like last season. Despite being as vague as possible, Tuchel hinted that the talented defender might just be kept for the season ahead.
“Trevoh was first in training the very first in training and is physically strong and deserved to play by his performances so far and again today he was very strong. He suffered in some moments but later with Azpi by his side and Jorgi close to him and helping him in tactical organisation he stepped again up.
“He never lost face and stayed calm and was physical enough to play 120 minutes. It was quite impressive. He forced his way into our thinking. Let’s see how it goes. We still have some days to decide his personal future but in the moment he shows his value to the team.”

From what everyone has seen so far, Chalobah does deserve a crack at the first team. He is a younger option than the likes of Thiago Silva and Azpilicueta and can chip in with the occasional appearance. Chelsea have a good number of central defenders but Chalobah is making a good case for inclusion.
