Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel provides an update on Hakim Ziyech after Super Cup win
According to the Metro, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel revealed that Hakim Ziyech has suffered a serious injury. The Moroccan was taken off right on the cusp of halftime in the UEFA Super Cup against Villarreal after a rather nasty collision with Juan Foyth.
It seems Ziyech cannot catch a break at Chelsea. Throughout last season, he struggled to get going with various injuries and team selection issues. It seemed like he had put all that to rest with his performances during the pre-season this time. His form prompted Tuchel to hand him a start in the Super Cup game against Villarreal.
Ziyech started the game with a bang with a cheeky finish in the 27th minute to hand Chelsea the lead. However, he would go on to last 16 more minutes before being taken off for Christian Pulisic. The forward had to endure a collision with Juan Foyth. He had to be given medical assistance and was seen being provided with oxygen support.
He was helped off the pitch and was later seen on the benches with a sling on his right arm. It’s a headache Tuchel would have wanted to avoid right at the start of the season, especially after his form over the pre-season. Tuchel went on to clarify that the injury was serious but gave no timeline on the same.
‘If you take a player out during the first half, it’s serious. It’s unfortunate because he was a very decisive player for us in the last few games.’

Both Ziyech and Tuchel will be hoping that the injury does not keep the former out for an extended period of time. Chelsea kick off their Premier League campaign against Crystal Palace on Saturday. They will also have two important games against Arsenal and Liverpool in the following weeks.
