According to transfer news from Daily Star, Chelsea target Saul Niguez has been made available for a cut-price. Atletico Madrid are willing to accept bids of around €40m. Chelsea are among the clubs to be monitoring the whole situation.
The 26-year-old has been a key part of Diego Simeone’s stellar Atletico side the past few years. His role in the side has somewhat diminished this season, making him seek a new challenge elsewhere. He made 41 appearances in all competitions as they won the La Liga title this season. However, of his 33 appearances in La Liga, only 22 have come as starts.
Much like the rest of Europe, Atleti are feeling the pinch of the pandemic in a financial sense. They are in a position that would require them to sell players first in order to sign new ones. It has been said that the midfielder who won the La Liga this season, is looking for a new challenge.
It has been reported that Chelsea are among the few sides who are keeping an eye on Saul’s situation at Atletico. The Spaniard has a release clause of €150m but it is believed that Atletico will be open to a move for around €40-50m. Although, the 26-year-old does have 5 years left on his deal.
While Chelsea don’t overly need a midfielder, it is just good sense to refresh those options at the start of the season. The Spaniard is a classy midfielder to have at your disposal. Also, there’s the fact that Chelsea can go for a cut-price deal makes it all the sweeter.
