According to transfer news from ABC Sevilla (h/t Daily Star), Chelsea are the most likely side to who can sign Jules Kounde. Alongside Chelsea, Manchester United and a few other sides are also interested in signing the talented defender valued at €65m.
Chelsea are looking at defensive options, with some players like Thiago Silva and Cesar Azpilicueta at the twilight of their careers. Kounde is among the names being considered by the Blues and Tuchel. Adding a new defender has become a priority, with Thomas Tuchel switching to a back three.
Kounde has made a name for himself in the short while he has been at Sevilla. That has encouraged teams from all over Europe to keep an eye on him. He was a central part en route to Sevilla’s Europa League win in 2020. Called up to the France side for the Euros, he was handed a start in the game against Portugal.
Chelsea are now considered to be the side leading the race for Kounde. Manchester United and a few other clubs are also keen but the Blues are most likely to sign him. The French defender is expected to cost a good amount in the range of €65m.
With Tuchel switching to a back three, it does make sense to go after at least one new centre-back. Refreshing the defensive options ahead of next season might be a very good idea. In Kounde, Chelsea will get a player they can rely on for years. While the price tag is by no means a small amount, the Blues could be getting their money’s worth in Kounde.
