Chelsea unwilling to meet Dortmund’s £150m demand for Erling Haaland

Transfer News: Chelsea unwilling to spend £150m on Erling Haaland

According to transfer news from Express, Chelsea are unlikely to pay the full £150m for Erling Haaland. He may be the club’s top target but the board are unwilling to sanction such a huge amount that is more than double their record signing.

The Norwegian hitman has taken Europe by storm with his goal-scoring exploits for RB Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund. In 59 outings for the latter, he has scored 57 goals. Chelsea have held an interest in the player for a while now as they try to add a striker to their ranks for next season.

He does have a release clause that gets activated in the summer of 2022 but a host of clubs want a deal this year itself, none more than Chelsea, who have a striker problem on their hands. Timo Werner has struggled to find goals. Tammy Abraham cannot seem to get a game and Giroud is on the wrong side of 30.

Chelsea won’t sanction such an expensive transfer

However, as it appears, Chelsea might not exactly give in to what Borussia Dortmund want. The German side are holding out for a mammoth £150m. That is an amount Chelsea are unwilling to throw. That amount is more than two of Chelsea’s biggest signings, Kai Havertz and Kepa Arrizabalaga. Chelsea are willing to wait until next year when he is available for a lower price.

It’s not hard to guess why Chelsea were bending over backwards to sign the talented goalscorer. Chelsea might have won the Champions League but the fact remains that they could have achieved even more with a clinical striker up front. Haaland has shown that he can do it at such a young age. However, the price being asked by Dortmund seems a shade too much in this situation.
