Ex-Chelsea ace wants Blues’ star to start for England against Germany at UEFA Euro 2020

Joe Cole wants Chelsea ace Mason Mount to start for England against Germany

According to Metro, Joe Cole feels that Chelsea ace Mason Mount should start for England against Germany. The former Chelsea winger wants Mount to be starting the important game ahead of Jack Grealish.

Mason Mount was handed a blow during the Euros when he was asked to isolate along with Chelsea teammate Ben Chilwell. This was due to the pair exchanging pleasantries with another Blues star, Billy Gilmour. The young midfielder tested positive for COVID shortly after the England vs Scotland game.

For now, Mount is having to train alone and isolated from the core group. He had to miss the last group game against the Czech Republic as a result. In his absence, Jack Grealish was handed a start and he provided the assist for Raheem Sterling’s only goal.

However, former Chelsea winger, Joe Cole feels that Mason Mount should be given the no ahead of Grealish when England take on Germany on Tuesday.

“As much as I love Jack, I’d go with Mase ahead of him for this game. Jack won’t like this, but having Jack off the bench, if it’s level after 60 minutes, imagine Wembley seeing Jack step up if we need something. You need someone on the bench who can change something.

“Mason’s a little bit more disciplined in the central position which allows you to change the system a little bit. It’s like choosing [a favourite] between your kids. Choosing between Mason Mount and Jack Grealish… I love them both!”

For, now Mount’s availability is still in question. He is unlikely to feature if he cannot train with the group. With such a crucial and tough game coming up, it would have been important to have Mount in the side. Nonetheless, Gareth Southgate can only wait and see what happens of the situation.
