According to transfer news from Glasgow Live, Rangers are eyeing an ambitious loan deal for Chelsea starlet Billy Gilmour. The youngster could be allowed to leave the club to gain some experience. Norwich have also shown interest in the player.
It seems Billy Gilmour’s stock is the highest it has been in his short career so far. While the talent was always there, Gilmour was not handed enough chances over the last two seasons at Chelsea. He had to settle for the one-off games in cup competitions.
Despite the sporadic games, Gilmour was pushed into the Scotland squad for the Euros. Steve Clarke learned quickly in the first game that he needed to bring in Gilmour for the second game. A star of the match display against a side like England meant that he kept them quiet through the match.
While Gilmour disappointingly had to drop out of the last game due to COVID, it seems as if he has garnered some attention. His former side Rangers are said to be interested in bringing back the player on loan. Manager Steven Gerrard has shown keenness on the deal and is hoping that Champions League football at the Ibrox can sway the deal in their favour.
Gilmour’s future is dependent on Mateo Kovacic. In case the latter stays, Gilmour will be heading out on loan. The Rangers move works for Chelsea as well given that Gilmour will be able to get first-team experience and play under a manager like Gerrard.
