According to transfer news from The Times, Bayern Munich are retrying to sign Callum Hudson-Odoi from Chelsea. The youngster is frustrated with a reduced role at Chelsea while Bayern are considering a summer bid for him.
Bayern’s interest in Hudson-Odoi has been longstanding. They bid for him extensively in 2019, only to be rebuffed every time by Chelsea. They came up with a loan deal last summer but Chelsea transfer supremo Marina Granovskaia rejected the offer.
Hudson-Odoi burst onto the scene as a 17-year-old in the 2018/19 season, where he made 24 senior appearances. However, he has become a fringe player over the last season as Chelsea made a host of signings last summer.
The English winger was also not helped by Thomas Tuchel’s arrival and subsequent switch to a back-three formation. He was given chances to play as a right-wingback but in the last few games, it was either Reece James or Cesar Azpilicueta starting there.
With the summer transfer window on the horizon, Bayern have decided to pursue the youngster again. Chelsea are also looking to add to their attacking options thereby leaving Hudson-Odoi as surplus. Due to the same, he could decide to leave Chelsea.
The 20-year-old Chelsea academy graduate is not coming off the best of seasons. He has been bogged down by competition and a change of formation. Letting him leave on a temporary deal or even a sale to Bayern might not be such a bad idea. He clearly needs more game time than what Tuchel can afford him.
