Frank Lampard reveals an unusual problem he had with N’Golo Kante at Chelsea
Former Chelsea manager Frank Lampard revealed that he had a rather unusual problem with N’Golo Kante (h/t Metro). The Chelsea legend spoke about how he had to stop Kante from running too much in training sometimes after his bout with an injury.
The 30-year-old Frenchman has enjoyed a stellar 2020/21 campaign. Be it under Frank Lampard or his successor Thomas Tuchel, Kante has been a key member of the Chelsea side. He has put in some stellar displays, especially, towards the end of the season, playing an integral role in the Blues’ success.
Indeed, Kante put in Man of the Match displays in the Champions League semi-finals against Real Madrid. He then absolutely dominated the Manchester City midfield in the finals in Porto, with another MOTM performance.
Now playing a similar role for France in the Euros, his former manager at Chelsea, Frank Lampard, spoke about an unusual problem he had with Kante.
‘The problem I found with him more than anything was trying to hold him back in training because every day you train and you let him off the leash in an opposed session he does that, and you have to try to pull him back because he can just put that output into anything he does. He’s incredible, he’s exactly what you see from the outside.’

These sort of ‘problems’ are welcome for any manager. The ever-smiling Kante is a workhorse of a player and puts it all out there and in training as Lampard said. Hence, the amount of success he has gotten over the years is not a surprise at all.
