According to The Athletic, Chelsea stars Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Antonio Rudiger have been named in the Germany squad for the Euros this summer. Joachim Low announced his initial 26-man contingent for the showpiece event in the summer.
The delayed Euros are almost upon us as club football will be taking a back seat after May. Portugal will set out to defend their 2016 crown. Germany named their travelling party for the European Championships, much like a few of the nations.
While there were a few surprises, most of the names that were expected to make the cut, did. Regulars for their national side now, Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Antonio Rudiger have been included.
Havertz and Werner might be having indifferent seasons in England but they are the main options for Low. As for Rudiger, he has enjoyed a good renaissance under Thomas Tuchel to get back into the fold. Few other Premier League stars were also named in the squad – Ilkay Gundogan, Robin Koch and Bernd Leno.
Among the surprises were Mats Hummels and Thomas Muller, who are returning to the national team after three years. The squad looks like a good blend of youth and experience, and should be well equipped to deal with the tournament.
