Chelsea to sell five players to raise funds for Romelu Lukaku move

Transfer News: Chelsea could sell five players to fund a move for Romelu Lukaku

According to transfer news from Daily Star, Chelsea could sell up to five players to fund a move for Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian striker is at the top of Chelsea’s wishlist for the summer transfer window as owner Roman Abramovich is keen to bring him back to Stamford Bridge.

Lukaku is no stranger to Chelsea given he spent three years at the club. He spent the second and third years of his Stamford Bridge career out on loan before leaving permanently for Everton. Nonetheless, he has managed to lift up his career to greater heights with his stint at Inter Milan.

The Italian side are in a financial mess despite their recent Serie A win. They are in a dire position where they need to raise funds through player sales and wage cuts. Now with Antonio Conte departing the club due to the same reasons, Lukaku could join suit.

Nonetheless, as Chelsea prepare to go after their former striker, it is believed that will sell off at least five players to raise funds. Among the first-team players, the likes of Tammy Abraham, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Kepa Arrizabalaba could be let go after slipping to the fringes.

The other two names who could be let go are Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek. Both players are set to return from their loan spells but don’t look as if they have a future at the club. Selling all these players should raise more than enough funds to make a bid for Lukaku.

The Blues have had their problems with forwards in recent seasons, with no striker seemingly being able to nail down a starting berth. Lukaku has honed his skills in the last few years and is a lethal striker for both club and country. Chelsea would be wise to take advantage of the whole situation and snap up their former player.
