Peter Crouch: Chelsea need one more signing to win Premier League
Writing in his column for the Daily Mail, former Premier League striker Peter Crouch has claimed that Chelsea are just one signing away from knocking Manchester City off their perch in the top-flight.
It has been somewhat of a roller-coaster season for Chelsea, but one that is set to end on a high. Having started well under Frank Lampard, the Blues suffered from a mid-season dip, which led to the Englishman’s sacking. In came Thomas Tuchel in January earlier this year and has sparked a sensational turnaround.
Making Chelsea one of the hardest teams to beat, the German has taken us to the finals of the UEFA Champions League and the FA Cup while leading us to the third place in the Premier League table.
During his time, Chelsea have gone on to beat the likes of Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid, Manchester City, Liverpool, setting the tone for a perfect end to the season. And Crouch has hailed the progress that the west Londoners have made since Tuchel took over.
“I cannot wait to see the next steps Tuchel and Chelsea make because I have been bowled over by the impact he has made. I’m so impressed and nobody in Europe would want to play them in their current form.”
However, Crouch added that he felt Chelsea were still a bit behind Manchester City, this despite us beating them twice over the past month. He further claimed that another defensive signing could be the key to the Blues becoming top-dog in England.
“If Chelsea can get a top-class central defender, one out of the highest bracket, that would put them in with a huge chance next season.”

As things stand, we do have a solid defensive unit that has exceeded expectations in the second half of the season. However, given the age of Cesar Azpilicueta and Thiago Silva, Crouch is not wrong in saying that we should bring in another world-class centre-back in the summer.
