“It is easier” – Resurgent Chelsea star takes a dig at Lampard

Marcos Alonso takes a dig at Frank Lampard over his exclusion

Chelsea full-back Marcos Alonso has taken a subtle dig at former manager Frank Lampard about his playing time (h/t Evening Standard). The former Fiorentina man cheekily said that he is more of use to Chelsea on the field rather than at home.

Alonso was among some of the names under Frank Lampard who had been frozen out of the squad. Before Tuchel took over, Alonso had only played in the West Brom game much early in the season. They had reportedly fallen out and since then, Lampard did not call upon his services.

However, right in Thomas Tuchel’s first game, Alonso was restored not only to the starting XI but also to the wing-back role he flourishes in. Since then, he has again become an important part of the side keeping summer signing Ben Chilwell on the bench. Alonso spoke about the situation whilst aiming a dig at the former manager.

“When I am on the pitch it is easier. When I used to stay home it was not easy to help the team, but I’m very happy to get involved, to help the team and I’m looking forward to more of this.”

The Spaniard had his game time massively reduced under Frank Lampard as he preferred a back four which does not use wing-backs.

“When I am on the pitch it is easier. When I used to stay home it was not easy to help the team, but I’m very happy to get involved, to help the team and I’m looking forward to more of this.”

However, things are now back to normal for Alonso as he has featured on a regular basis for Tuchel. He even scored a stunning goal against Burnley to reiterate his importance to the side and show what Lampard was missing out on.
