Chelsea still interested in Serie A star who Tuchel ‘dreams’ of signing

Chelsea and Real Madrid are pursuing AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie

A report by Sports Mediaset (h/t Express) claims that Chelsea are interested in signing Franck Kessie from AC Milan and could propose a bumper deal for the midfielder.

La Liga giants Real Madrid are the other club linked with the Ivory Coast international. His contract at Milan runs out in the summer of 2022 and the Rossoneri want to extend it further.

The report adds that if Kessie does not agree to an extension, Milan could be forced to offload him in the summer in order to avoid losing him on a free transfer later on.

A report by Il Milanista (h/t Express) claimed last month that Kessie is a midfielder that Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel ‘dreams’ of signing. And no one can blame him for wanting him at Stamford Bridge.

A ‘dream’ signing?

The 24-year-old has had an explosive season in Serie A so far. The dynamic box-to-box midfielder has appeared in 25 league games and has a tally of 9 goals and 3 assists from midfield. (h/t Transfermarkt)

He is certainly one of the major reasons behind Milan’s charge for the Scudetto. They sit 2nd in the table, just 6 points behind leaders and rivals Inter Milan.

Chelsea are not without a shortage of midfielders, at least on paper. Jorginho, N’Golo Kante, and Mateo Kovacic are already doing well and sharing game time under Tuchel in central midfield.

But a player like Kessie would add youth, experience, and an option in the middle of the park.

Fikayo Tomori is on loan at AC Milan until the end of the season and his contract includes an option for Milan to sign him permanently for £27million. This is something that Chelsea could utilise in their favour if they are serious about signing Kessie.
