Chelsea ace Edouard Mendy to undergo surgery during the international break
According to Football.london, Chelsea shot-stopper Edouard Mendy will have surgery during the international break. The Senegalese was supposed to link up with his national side but will instead remain at the club to go through tooth surgery.
Thomas Tuchel confirmed that Mendy will not be joining the Senegal squad during this international break. It has been said that Mendy requires tooth surgery and he will get that done in London during this two-week break.
“Edou Mendy will stay because he has an operation on his tooth. He needs to see the dentist because it needs to be done. It’s why we do it now.”
Mendy was rested in Chelsea’s win over Sheffield United in the FA Cup as Kepa Arrizabalaga deputised in his absence. Chelsea went to the next round winning 2-0, setting up a semi-final date with Manchester City next month.
Senegal are scheduled to face Congo and Eswatini in the AFCON qualifiers. However, since their qualification has already been ensured in the group, Mendy’s absence is unlike to be an issue.
