As reported by the Evening Standard, Juventus manager Andrea Pirlo has hinted at a potential move for Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud in the January transfer window.
The 34-year-old has been with the club for three years now, having first joined from Arsenal in January 2018. While he hasn’t been a regular starter for us, Giroud has stepped up and scored a number of important goals throughout his stint at the Bridge.
The World Cup winner started the season as the third-choice striker behind new signing Timo Werner and Tammy Abraham. However, on the back of a series of impressive performances, he has forced his way into Frank Lampard’s starting XI.
Till date, Giroud has found the back of the net on nine occasions for Chelsea across all competitions this season. With his contract up for expiry at the end of the season, a number of clubs have expressed an interest in securing his services this month.
Now, Juventus, too, seem to have thrown their hat in the ring to try and sign Giroud in the winter window, if Pirlo’s recent statements are anything to go by.
“He’d be handy! We already discussed with the club what we want to do and if there are any opportunities. We hope to do something over the next few days.”
Giroud, in a recent interview, seemed to hint that he wants to see the ongoing season through with Chelsea. Given that he is our top scorer this term, it is extremely unlikely that the club would let him leave either.
