Cesar Azpilicueta dismisses reports of him having clashed with Antonio Rudiger in Chelsea training
According to The Mirror, Chelsea skipper Cesar Azpilicueta has denounced news of him and Antonio Rudiger having a go at each other during training.
It was reported in the aftermath of Frank Lampard’s departure that there was tension behind the scenes at the Bridge. Both players were said to have clashed multiple times, creating unrest in the squad.
Finally speaking up on the issue, Azpilicueta has dismissed the veracity of these claims.
“With Toni, we didn’t have an issue and we have been working together for a few years.”
The Blues skipper admitted that everything is fine and that he will not be talking about an ‘alleged’ incident that did not happen.
“Everything is fine and I can say that didn’t happen. We didn’t have any issues and we don’t have. We always work together.”
It is heartening to know that things behind the scenes were not as bad as feared. While there may be issues, infighting is always something that can spill over. With the issue now resolved, both players can look to play a part in Thomas Tuchel’s Blue revolution.
Of morale and expectations!
The 31-year-old revealed that the pressures as a player are similar to that of any other job. The players too have to keep up to expectations, failing which there will be obvious unrest.
“When results are not going well, everybody has more tension around but nothing further than this.”
Given the poor run of results, expecting the squad to be happy would be asking for too much. Both players started as part of a three-man defence in Tuchel’s first game in charge and promptly went on to keep a clean sheet.
